Ferguson Decoys, a family business, was started in 1980 by Tom and Linda Ferguson. Tom first started carving in 1971, as an apprentice to Ken Harris, in upstate New York. Ken was a world known carver of hunting decoys, as well as collector pieces. Ken sold Tom & Linda his business in 1980, and worked for them until his death in 1981.

The traditional carving style is still found in our work. We use only a silhouette pattern at the beginning and the rest of the work is done with the use of a band saw, chisels, sanders, and knives.

The painting is done by Linda with the use of the best acrylic artists paints available. We pride ourselves with the attention given to the detail in the painting. With the use of live birds, mounts, and photographs we try to achieve the truly authentic appearance of the real duck.

Our Decorative Classic ducks have the wings and tail woodburnt into the body, as well as a few feathers, to give them texture. The rest of the feathering is achieved thru detailed painting. All carvings are life size.

We make about 30 different species of ducks in both drakes and hens. We also make a life-size Loon and Swan.
